What is goal setting ?

Thought about this goal ? Yes people who loves football might think it is this what we called goal. The same goes to me though. But no, it ain't this one

It is actually this one :)

In my perspective, goal setting is something that we work for in order to achieve our goals. It is a process of identifying something that we want to accomplish. If you want to succeed, you need to set goals. As a student, we wish for nothing more than to be succeed. So this is our goal, being successful as what we aims for. So here is the five steps to approach your goals.

  1. Set Smart Goals
Probably all of us already have our smart goals, but there is a rule that need to be apply in order to make sure this works. So this is what smart stands for :-

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Relevant
  • Time Bound

Set Specific Goals

Your goal must be clear and well defined. Rough and generalized goals are unhelpful because they don't provide the true direction. You need goals to show you the way. Make it as easy as you can to get where you want to go by defining precisely where you want to end up.

Set Measurable Goals

Set precise amount amounts, dates and so on so you can measure your degree of success. Without a way to measure your success, you miss out something that comes without knowing you have actually achieved your target.

Set Attainable Goals

Make sure that it is possible to achieve the goals you set. If you set something beyond your ability which is something that you have no hope to achieve, it is like you are hoping for something that will never happen. You will just demoralize yourself and erode your confidence.

Set Relevant Goals

Goals must be relevant to the direction of your career path. By keeping your goals aligned with this, it will help you to develop well on what you want to be. Set irrelevant and inconsistent goals, it will just distract and slow down your move and waste your time.

Set Time-Bound Goals

Every goals you made must have a deadline. It means you know when you will achieve your goals. When you are working on a deadline, your sense of urgency increases and you will be able to finish your work much quicker. You will also doubled up your effort to finish the things up. Achievement will come in just a blink of an eye.

      2. Make an Action Plan

This step is often missed in the process of goal setting. Make an action plan actually will ease up your way to achieve something. You can just write out the individuals steps and then cross it as you have complete it. You will realize that you are making a good progress towards your ultimate goals. This will help you to have an organized work as well.

      3. Goals Shoud be Self-chosen

Goals that are set by your parents, teacher, or friends may not always work for you. You need to determine or choose your own goals. You need to decide what you want to accomplish. If you set your own goals, you will be more motivated to achieve them.

      4. Goals Should be Moderately Challenging

One way to set moderately challenging goals is to consider what you have done in the past. Goals can always be revised, if you discover you can achieve more than you originally set out to accomplish.

      5. Goals Should be Positive

Negative goal statement tend to make you feel that you can't really be successful, they are not motivating. You will always do better if you are working toward something when you have positive attitude. Avoid using words like try, think, and hope when you describe your goals.
