Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)

Image
The Early History and Development of The Scanning Electron Microscope The earliest known work describing the concept of a Scanning Electron Microscope was by M. Knoll (1935) who, along with other pioneers in the field of electron optics, was working in Germany. Subsequently M. von Ardenne (1938) constructed a scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) by adding scan coils to a transmission electron microscope. The first STEM micrograph was of a ZnO crystal imaged at an operating voltage of 23 kV at a magnification of 8000 times, and a spatial resolution between 50 and 100 nm. The micrograph contained 400 x 400 scan lines and took 20 min to record, because the film was mechanically scanned in synch with the beam. The instrument had two electrostatic lenses, with the scan coils placed between them. The instrument also had a viewing CRT, but it was not used to record the image The first SEM used to examine the surface of a solid specimen was described by Zworykin et al. (194...

Getting Ready to Learn

What is UED 102 ? UED 102 is a new subject in UiTM for part 1 student. So basically it is a soft skills subject which provide you with some motivational talk from the experienced lecturers. This subject requires you to do an assessments which is 100% coursework. The first assignment is a group work assignment which provide 40% while the second one is study skills e-portfolio which is for individual work and provide you another 60%. Group Assignment (40%) This assignment aims to provide students with the platform to experience them as university students, and work as a team to complete the given task. Each group have to prepare a creative 10-minute video of five important places in the campus. They have to visit the five chosen places and using their creativity, the have to make the video as interesting as possible. The video later need to be submit and will be evaluated by the respective lecturer. Study Skills e-Portfolio (60%) The purpose of this task is to int...
